Spend time in prayer and silence with God asking him to meet you and speak to you.
Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand.
Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”
“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.”
Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lord have for his servant?”
The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.
– Joshua 5:13-15
The first sword drawn near Jericho was the sword of God, not the sword of man. It symbolizes the “invisible armies of heaven” fighting to conquer Canaan. The Captain of the Lord’s Host was leading them.
Joshua learned the lesson that he must submit and obey. The Captain said to Joshua, “Take off your shoes, the place where you are standing is holy ground.” And Joshua did so.
The Big Question
We are engaged in a holy war against the world, the flesh, and the devil. Are you being submissive to God and walking in the Spirit?
Are there areas that you need to submit, obey, and trust God?
Conclude in prayer and silence, reflecting on what you’ve learned.
