Numbers 13 & 14

Numbers chapters 11 - 20 is the Old Testament story that is most referenced by New Testament writers.

Moses and the Israelites are at the edge of the Promised Land. Their journey of faith is almost complete.

All they had to do was FOLLOW THE CLOUD and not FOLLOW THE CROWD.

The disaster in the desert that changes history occurs in Numbers 13 & 14…

In 1 Corinthians 10, Paul writes to Christ Followers in Corinth.

Encouraging them to listen to God’s Voice, Paul references this account from Numbers 11 - 20:

My dear fellow believers, you need to understand that all of our Jewish ancestors who walked through a wilderness long ago were under the glory cloud and passed through the waters of the sea on both sides.

They were all baptized into the cloud of glory, into the fellowship of Moses, and into the sea.

They all ate the same heavenly manna and drank water from the same spiritual rock that traveled with them—and that Rock was Christ himself.

Yet God was not pleased with most of them, and their dead bodies were scattered around the wilderness.

- 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 (TPT)

  • What voices am I listening to?

  • Am I going with my GUT or am I going with my GOD?

  • What have people told me is “okay” or “normal?”
For more on this question, see Paul’s thoughts from 1 Corinthians 10:23-24 -

You say, “Under grace there are no rules and we’re free to do anything we please.”

Not exactly.

Because not everything promotes growth in others.

Your slogan, “We’re allowed to do anything we choose,” may be true—but not everything causes the spiritual advancement of others.

So don’t always seek what is best for you at the expense of another.

Take time to pray for one another.

We need each other to have our backs.

Pray for God to strengthen one another.

Ask the Spirit to make His Voice clear in our daily lives.
